The NDCS Young People’s Advisory Board (YAB)

The Young People’s Advisory Board tells NDCS what’s important to deaf young people. They are a bit like our advisors!

The Board is made up of 19 deaf young people from across the UK. The members are aged between 13-18, have varying levels of deafness and communicate in different ways. Some of them use speech, some use British Sign Language (BSL) and some use a mix of both.

The YAB meet up in different parts of the UK sharing their views and experiences. They receive training on lots of different things and then take part in cool opportunities.

Some of them have visited schools to raise awareness and act as positive deaf role models. Some have met Members of Parliament (MPs) or local decision makers to make sure that people in power know how best to support deaf young people.

They also work on some really exciting campaigns. Find out more about campaigns the YAB have done here.

They’re always helping NDCS too. They’ve shared their ideas to improve our website and helped create our new brand for young people.

It’s not all hard work! They get to have a lot of fun too and make really good friends.

We will be looking for new YAB members in Summer 2022. If you’re interested in the YAB or want more information contact
